Question: Quit my job and travel the world - good or bad idea?
So I was planning to work for several years, save up all my money and go travel for a year and a half. I wasn't planning on working, just traveling and having fun while seeing the world, eating different foods from different places, experiencing different cultures and countries, figuring out more about myself if that makes sense. I know it's gonna be HELLA expensive, but that's why I'm not going for about 5 years yet. Also, most of my traveling will be inclusive of accommodation, attractions and most meals etc because I'll be going on cruises (P&O and RCI) and tours (mostly Contiki) for the most part. I want to experience different things around the world, like seeing machu picchu, riding a vespa in italy, sailing in the whitsundays, riding an elephant in thailand and a camel in egypt, seeing the pyramids, doing an african safari, doing a visitors tour of harvard, snorkelling in the great barrier reef, standing on the top of the rock and the empire state building, being in times square on new years eve, seeing the walk of fame, zip-lining in alaska, seeing ferrari world, shark diving, paragliding in europe above the alps ... all these different things around the world i want to experience (these are all included in all the tours I'm doing). I'm just worried that when I come back and have to find a job my prospective employer will think I'm selfish and irresponsible in throwing my money away in that I haven't worked for a year and a half I've just been "having fun all around the world". What do you think? Is it a bad idea? I just thought it would be a cool thing to do I read about this family on the internet who had done it, they'd saved up for about 10 years and 4 of them went around the world for a year, not working just travelling around for a whole year.
Answer:
great Idea, I did it for 5 years. best education you can get in life. work your way around the world
but do not go on tours. that is just a waste. be a real traveler /vagabond/gypsie. and always travel alone meeting local people and other travelers along the way. Travel light . no luggage. buy things as you need them. so you never lugs things, backpacks around. and are free to wander.
A lot depends on what you plan to do when you get back. That kind of travel will change you and what you think you value and depend on now may have changed considerably by the time you get done with your travels. I suggest you save up enough so you have at least 6 months living expenses in the bank for when you get back. Bon voyage!
Hello! It is a good idea but I guess that will be your greatest and selfish decision if ever you will pursue that. Anyhow if you have the money it will not be a problem. Remember traveling around that world is an investment. Go for it, take your time and enjoy.
