Question: My future career in law enforcement after joining the Canadian army as an infantry soldier. Almost 14, help?
I live in Winnipeg which is a small city. I want to join the army as an infantry soldier but I'm debating if I should now for the following reasons:
- working in the middle east
- being abroad for long periods
- PTSD
- limited lifestyle
I really want to become a police officer and move to Toronto because Its a large city, however I will not be near my family. I want to be a police officer because compared to the army situations will be listed as following:
- live in city
- Good food
- no contract
- quiting option
- can see family when I want
- wont me openly carrying weapons( at the ready constantly, will be often conscealed)
- more job opportunities
- better overall lifestyle
- wont be fired upon with FULL auto weapons and explosions ( very rarely compared to army)
- can sleep in my own bed and feel safe at night
I mainly want to join the army for the bare minimum amount of time (2 or 3 years) for the experience and skills as well as fighting for my country and being able to work with a c7 rifle and have full cadpat and also adrenaline rushes and being in firefights. also I'd rather be in a car then in a heavily armored vehicle. Also I could have breaks in the day and would be around stores and convenient locations. I mainly don't want to join the army because I could obtain PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which might disqualify me from becoming a police officer. I understand that I can get PTSD from a career in law enforcement, however if will not be as severe. I also want to mention that I have and am diagnosed with ADHD. This might disqualify me from joining the army but not law enforcement. I really want to make an educated decision. Thank-you in advance. I apologize for the length of my question.
Answer:
If you are not prepared to die for your country on your very first day of service, if you do not believe that you could lose arms or legs, and if you are not willing to accept that you could become a vegetable because of head wounds, then you are not ready to serve.
