Question: Master in Public Policy or Master in Public Administration for Consultation Jobs required/ Best suits?

Hi guys,

I planning to continue my Master soon but im very confused with two courses offered in the Uni.
1) Master in Public Administration anthr
2)Master in Public Policy.
My interest is to be a consultant in any International companies like Mckinsey and Deloitte in consulting on Projects and Policies.(currently working in a Bank).1st i thought to chose MPA since i got read some forums and people have a good comment on this. But after looking at the course content/subject offered for both MPA and MPP ,MPA sounds more international and towards developing analytical skills which make me more confuse in choosing the right one. Here is the subject offered by both MPA and MPP:-pls advise me on this.

MPP:
1. Foundation of Public Policy (ZIGP 6101)
2. Development of Public Policy (ZIGP 6102)
3. Economics for Public Policy I (ZIGP 6103)
4. Budget Administration (ZIGP 6104)
5. Research Methodology (ZIGP 6105)
6. Management and Public Policy (ZIGP 6106)
7. Economics for Public Policy 2 (ZIGP 6107)
8. Policy Analysis Exercise (ZIGP 6108)
9. Law and Public Policy (ZIGP 6111)
10. Cost Benefit Analysis (ZIGP 6112)
11. Capstone Project (ZIGP 6113)
12. Research Project (ZIGP 6181)
Elective Courses (4 credit hours)
Research Project-required to conduct a policy analysis of an actual
client or organisation (public or private).

MPA:
Candidates of this programme are required to take
- five (5) Core Courses

EPGB6120 - Management Theory and Practice
EPGB6121 - Financial Administration in Developing Countries
EPGB6122 - Research Methodology
EPGB6123 - Policy Analysis and Programme Evaluation
EPGB6124 - Politics, Development and Governance
EPGB6181 - Research Paper

- four (4) Optional Courses.

EPGB6111 - Human Resource Management
EPGB6112 - Quality Management
EPGB6319 - Malaysian Politics
EPGB6320 - Public Management Techniques
EPGB6322 - Social Policy and Development
EPGB6324 - Planning Administration in Community Development
EPGB6325 - Civil Society and Social Transformation
EPGB6326 - Institutions and Organizations

- one (1) Research Paper --------------------------------
hope you guys can suggest which would bring me towards a professional consultation career Internationally.

Answer:

I think its really great you are moving your career forward in this direction. It may not be easy but with sure pay much grater returns in the future. Best of success to you

Hello, Dear Future Consultant, Very first I would like to give thanks for sharing your own planning in yahoo answers section. Here I am pleased to share you, It's more better if you complete your education in MPP (Where Development, Economic, Budgets, Research, Management, Cost Analysis, Law & Public policy involves) in other side in MPA program such subjects is missing partially, if you take advantage from optional courses than it would little better. I think both are similar status but some difference in courses or depend on your self preferences. If you really want to be a consultant in any international consulting companies then you would highly required international degrees such as MBA, MPP, MPA etc with major along with additional PgDMC (Post graduate diploma in management consulting), during practicing consulting you can start education for a CBC (Certified Business Consultant) or CMC (Certified Management Consultant) from www.theiiba.com,iabc.org.nz, theicbc.org, ICMCI America etc. These courses offers qualified global professional degrees. I shared this info here coz personally I am a consultant. For more info visit: rejaulabedin.nam.cm or www.twcmsi.com . Have a nice consultancy career indeed.
