Question: If I have a 0 hours contract and work on an as and when?

Basis, am I required to provide a sick certificate as I'm off with a broken heel? I don't get sick pay but my employer says I need a sick certificate!

Answer:

They will be asking for it because you may be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay from your employer if you have earned enough money in the weeks leading up to your accident.

If they cannot pay you because you haven't earned enough then they should issue you with an SSP1 form which enables you to claim the same money directly from the DWP.
