Question: I want to apply for an Assistant Analyst position but they require a writing sample. But what kind?

I want to apply for an Assistant Analyst position. But they require a writing sample be brought in with the resume. Which is fine... except I have no idea what they are looking for., as far as a writing sample. I've written everything from Press Releases, to long reports, to newspaper articles. Does anyone have any idea? In the job description, it does not have any details about any writing I would have to do (as far as what kind of reports, etc.) so I have no hints there.

I would provide a sample that's applicable to the job.

For example, if the job is assistant analyst for a medical clinic, provide a sample about a report you've written about improving efficiency in medical data reporting. If it's in finance, provide something about finance.

Basically, they just want to know you can express yourself without sounding like a bumbling idiot and it's not a major part of the selection criteria.
