Question: How to get starting with overseas teaching jobs?
I am graduating college in 2.5 months with an IT degree. However, I want to travel and get out the country before starting my career in whatever field I land in. I want to try n teach English overseas a bit before settling in to something new. Where can I get started and what have peoples' experiences been like?
Answer:
I have taught English in China, Korea and Taiwan. I'd recommend checking this guide out to teaching English in Asia: http://eslinsider.com/starters-guide
You'll find some good links in there for finding a job and getting started.
For the most part you don't need a TEFL cert. just a degree. Beware of TEFL providers that tell you otherwise. http://eslinsider.hubpages.com/hub/TEFL-…
Depending where you want to go you'll find it useful to have a TEFL certificate. Most jobs ask for a degree and a TEFL cert. It's a short course you can take; it can be taken either in-house or online at your own pace which is a much cheaper option (see http://icalweb.com).
Then where do you want to go? A lot will depend on your nationality and if you have a passport which allows you to work in Europe. The usual destinations are Asia, Europe (for British/Irish teachers) and South America.
Then there is finding work. Usually online but you can use an agent. See the link below for much more info on this!
Good luck!
