Question: How long do holiday rep jobs last!?
how long do holiday reps stay in one place? is it for a hole year e.g. just stay in one country and work the whole year. would they go to one country and just be working for the peak seasons? or would they have to move with seasons e.g. go to Spain for summer and go Switzerland for winter?
if i have confused you i am very sorry, i got a bit confused myself and didn't know how to word it!!
thanks :)
Answer:
A Holiday rep with no experience is taken on by a Tour company only if they think they will be suitable. They need to love people, be efficient, capable of working as required without problems. The need to be able to sell excursions and their tour company's extras to reach their targets and gain any financial reward other that the very low basic offered. At this stage they can be without a job with very nominal notice.
If the Individual performs they might get the recognition for their hard work and a vague commitment that next season you will be re hired and possibly given better properties to look after.
You need to show you really can take the problems to be a Holiday rep. You should always know the language of the country you intend operating in and first aid, water safety, creche and kids awareness adds to your potential value.
If you establish yourself through your slave labour you might move up the corporate ladder but that depends on your commitment, organizational skills and ability to laugh when you really want to kill.
Tour Managers lead groups for different operators and then language, local knowledge and social and organizational skills are the assets needed and maturity and a calm exterior while paddling like a demented duck under the surface a must
