Question: How to find my first job?

Hi, I live in upper north shore in sydney australia. Im starting uni soon at unsw and also wish to find a job to earn some spare cash. However, i haven't been able to find a single job for someone that has no working experience. I've thought about tutoring but the fact i don't have my P's yet takes that out of the question. So basically, what are some advices for finding a first job?

Apply to local shops/stores. They will usually hire kids who've never worked before as long as you come with references from people other than mother/father/friends.
