Question: Find a new job or go on holiday?

Im stuck in this job I have for 5 years now. It's not what I want to do and the city i live in doesnt offer much in creative work. I want to move to London to try my chances there this year but my girlfriend want us to go on holiday because we haven't been on one together for a few years. I only have enough money for one or the other (ie money for moving to London or go to hong kong for holiday)

I'm not sure what I should do.. Find a new job and move to London? (which means I could be very tight on budget and not afford to go on holiday for another few years) or go to Hong Kong/Japan because it's what my girlfriend wants (and I would like too but coming back to no money and saving again - not able to move to London for another year)

Answer:

If I am in your shoes, I will persuade my girlfriend to have a holiday with me in London instead of Hongkong. If she agrees, then you will be shooting two birds with one stone. Just make her expect that during one or two of your vacation days in London, you will be leaving her in an apartment so you can find a new job.

Telling her also about your career moves would be greatly appreciated. This way you are giving her the impression that she is part of your future plans. For sure she will understand your predicament of having only enough money to make the trip to London and look for a job as soon as possible. Who knows, you may be able to get a job right away and enjoy the rest of your holidays together.

Better idea: find a new, more realistic and supportive girlfriend

Go on holiday,but alone...:-p

I think getting a new job is more important.

If your girlfriend wants a vacation, why can't SHE pay for it?!??

If you want to move to London, then do so. Make sure you have a large emergency savings fund.

Not sure this really comes under the career section rather than the "relationship's" category but for that it's worth I think you need to sit down with your girlfriend and explain how you feel.

See if you can compromise with her for a cheaper holiday to somewhere like spain and still make the move to London. I wouldn't move until you have found a job though. Jobs in London are not that easy to come by and there will be a much higher percentage of people applying per role than in other parts of the UK.
