Question: Dont think Ill get this job now help !?!?
Im a qualified dental nurse and went last thursday for a job interview. The practice manager invited me in for a work trial this morning. The dentist I worked with said I did very well and would be more than happy to take me on. The practice mananger says aslong as my references come back good then she's more happy to take me on!!
Thing is I left on bad terms with my last employer, I didnt get on with a member of staff so I ended up quiting and not working my notice period. My interviewer insisted thats its in her policies to contact the last employer. So I have phoned up my old boss made her aware Ive had to put her down and asked would she be willing to give me just a simple reference, being truthful about my nursing ( Ive always done my job well). She said she would be truthful but under the circumstances would only answer what she can?
I have never had a disiplinery or been fired. I did explain to my possible new boss I left on kind of bad terms but I didnt tell her the whole truth to why, can she ask this?
So bascially if my references are good the jobs mine!! Whats the chances with two other good references and them liking me they will ignore any bad bits from my last employer, and give me a chance or am i doomed?
Thanks :(
Answer:
Many former employers won't say anything too negative about you because they fear a law suit for defamation of character. They will answer simple questions from the prospective employer but not elaborate. That's what your old employer said. So the fact that you left without notice can be discussed as it's a fact. Other personal problems will most likely be left alone. If the non-notice is a big problem for the new employer, you'll be rejected.
Time will tell.
