Question: Did I mess up sending a TYPED cover letter for hotel night porter job?

I applied to a 4* hotel yesterday by mailing a CV and cover letter, and I can see on the Royal Mail website they received it and signed for it today. Trouble is, I looked up the job description tonight and when glancing at "CV/written application" my heart stopped.

I then searched Google and it appears those are not to be typed. The only pen to paper I made is signing my name at the bottom of it.

I'm now wondering how much this faux-pas could affect the application. I'm not trying to brag, but it was a brilliantly written covering letter I feel, I'm just paranoid my mishap could turn them off, so to speak.

According to this:

The whole "needs to be in your written handwriting", is a myth.

Can any interviewers, managers, etc, please confirm or deny this?

Thanks.

Answer:

you will be ok, night porter job's are one the job's, hotels cannot fill, as not many people want to work nights, nor do they want to do the job's the hotel ask's like setting up rooms, cooking food, serving drink's, checking people in and out, I know I did this job for 5 years and I would never do the job again!!!!, you have to deal with all the guest problems, the fights at the weddings and yes the hotel I worked at was a 5 star hotel, the best in the whole country, so good luck!!!!

They usually ask for a written cover letter so they can see what your writing is like, It also gives an indication of your English skills (as there's no spell check).

I'm a manager and to be honest it doesn't bother me, it's better to have typed covering letter if your writing is awful and I can't read it!
It's more about character and personality than penmanship!

It'll most likely depend on how many other applicants they get and whether they are better AND did what was required.

I doubt they'd reject you, if other applicants are not good but did hand write.

Be prepared to answer questions though if it's bought up in an interview.
