Question: Can you please help me! This is EXTREMELY important!!!?
Ok, now I did (like a week ago) post a similiar question up here but since then, things have gotten 100 times worse. I REALLY need help looking for a job. I will put my info right under this but. I am extremely busy during the day and I can barely get my school work done but luckily I am really close to being done and graduating (gets my hopes up to get this done). I have pending cases and fines that I need to pay so I need the money. I am also expecting a kid soon so I need more money for that. And I can barely pay my car payments & rent so I really need some help or im gonna hit rock bottom.
Im 18, I can work with a flexible schedule but prefers nightshift, currently still in school, I live in the Philadelphia/New Jersey/ Delaware area in the USA. Anything else please ask but I really need help.
Answer:
Shawn, not sure what you've done already, and what I'm going to tell you is extremely basic so please don't take it as condescending. First things you should do if you haven't already is get posted on job boards like Monster, Career Builder, Indeed, and build a LinkedIn profile.
If you need work fast, next thing you should do is call the local staffing/temp agencies in your area. If you don't mind the pay they'll probably find you something entry level pretty quickly.
You can do these things spending maybe half an hour a day if you're cramped for time, and it will take a little bit of the edge off job hunting. You're putting yourself out there and with a little luck, these jobs will come to you.
Another basic thing I'm going to say is you need to present a professional image, even if you wind up a stockboy. Companies always like someone that they feel they can train up, that has their stuff together, even if it's for something basic. Make sure you're wearing at least business casual when you go to your interviews, get yourself a nice button shirt from Kohls or somewhere and some high end slacks, dress shoes. Bring a portfolio to interviews. Hope this helps.
Really sucks when you think you know everything and then Life comes and smacks in you in the face doesn't it. Guess you should have stayed out of trouble with the law, and kept your junk in your trunk instead of messing around, huh. Welcome to the Real world, kiddo.
